I’ve found lots of interesting material with a Web Science flavour of late, but the stuff produced by the guys behind www.codeswarm.org has to come close to the top of the list. They’ve pumped out loads of amazing visualisations showing the evolution of various software products, platforms, gizmos and so on, but I personally think their Limewire animation carries the most impact. Limewire is a piece of well know Web-centric software closely tied to many of the stronger undercurrents in Web culture (for both good and bad reasons). Just watch the video below and marvel at how quickly the Web can help extract wisdom from the crowd. In fact, squint for a few moments and its easy to see something organic and bubbling with life. Simply great and extremely profound:
